About the Interfolio Faculty Information System
The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that we have engaged with Interfolio, a leading academic faculty management software and higher education technology firm, to implement an electronic management tool for the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) process at UNC Chapel Hill. This tool will help us create a unified and seamless process to support our faculty at Carolina, allowing faculty and department administrators across our institution to access a single, streamlined platform for managing the APT process in their unit.
Interfolio is a software platform used specifically by academic institutions to secure and process information about faculty professional activities as well as streamline the APT process. Interfolio builds software with faculty foremost in mind, securing and retaining information in a manner useful to faculty for their entire career. As an academic workflow software built for shared governance, Interfolio’s Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) module helps institutions ensure that their academic review processes are equitable, consistent, well documented, and efficient.

Interfolio Updates
Provost Clemens announced the ongoing efforts to implement Interfolio’s faculty management software at UNC Chapel Hill. The anticipated launch date is Spring of 2025. More updates regarding timing of the implementation, Interfolio training, and additional resources will be provided here on the Office of Faculty Affairs website.

Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) is a module within the Interfolio software platform that securely streamlines the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) process. Faculty members who are up for evaluation will use RPT to submit their dossiers for review. Administrative personnel, Department Chairs, Deans, the Provost, and relevant review committee members will use this module of Interfolio to evaluate dossiers submitted by faculty.
Interfolio will be launched campus-wide in Spring 2025. Please check the Office of Faculty Affairs website in the coming weeks for more information on how and when your school/unit will be using Interfolio.
Training resources on how to use UNC’s Interfolio platform will be available prior to the campus-wide launch. Supplementary resources can be found on the Interfolio website, including a brief video demonstration of Interfolio’s RPT module from the viewpoint of a system administrator.
